Coal

Coal is NPPD's lowest cost resource, and NPPD's fossil fueled plants generate enough energy to meet half of our customer's needs. Production costs are less because the coal comes from Wyoming.

NPPD operates two coal-fired facilities:
  • Gerald Gentlemen Station in western Nebraska
  • Sheldon Station, approximately 30 miles south of Lincoln
  • NPPD also purchases 157 megawatts from Omaha Public Power District's Nebraska City Unit II plant.
